Production Basic - Understanding MIDI (Part 2)

Sunday 9 August 2009

Hi all, we talked about what is MIDI and the very basic of "What is MIDI?". So now it's time for me to explain about the "MIDI Channels". In MIDI system, the ways instruments are linked means they all receive the same MIDI information. To allow "master" instrument with the slaves to be more selective, MIDI Channel was created. There are 16 channels total, and it works similar with TV channels. If you are using cable, there are four channels came to your TV at the same time and the same are. But, you as the "master" choose which channel to be played (Got it?). By switching channels at the master keyboard, there are up to 16 MIDI Channels that can be addressed/played individually, even though they are all wired in the same system. I'm sorry i can only post this short, very very sorry. Enjoy:)
