So much has been said about one of the greatest DJs in the world. Carl Cox has excelled as a producer, artist, remixer, radio DJ, businessman, and ambassador for dance music. In the UK he is a full-blown 'Pop Star'. As anyone who has met him will attest, Carl Cox is the living embodiment of the perfect gentlemen, the DJ diplomat and progressive music pioneer.
Carl Cox began 1996 with the launch of his own record label, Worldwide Ultimatum, releasing his debut self-produced album 'At The End Of The Cliche'. This album was a culmination of influences gained from 18 years of the experience. It took over two years to complete ans stormed up the UK charts attaining a position of #22. In addition, he began his own management company, Ultimate Music Management, which has blossomed under his watchful eye and boasts a roster which includes such well-known DJ's as Josh Wink, Laurent Garnier and Judge Rules.
Carl Cox's achievements do not stop there. He has appeared on Top of the Pops and in 1996 was awarded the International Dance Award "Dj Of The Year" for the second year in a row. Muzik Magazine crowned him "DJ Of The Year" in their readers poll and he received "Best DJ Of The Year" accolades in Scotland, Ireland, France and Germany. He has graced the covers of England's biggest music magazines including Mixmag, Muzik, DJ and Wax. Cox also joined the prestigious team at London's Kiss FM radio station with his own "Ultimate Mix" show on Saturday nights and was awarded the "DJ Mixer Of The Year" by its listeners.
Carl Cox has rocked dance floors the world over and has conquered corners of the globe previously left untouched. Maintaining a constant tour schedule, playing throughout the UK and Europe, he recently mesmerized thousands in Israel, South Africa, Japan and Australia. Cox appeared at the legendary Love Parade (one of the world's largest raves) in Berlin playing to over 80,000 people. Markus Schulz has been winning over fans with his dark, brooding, melodic productions and DJ sets. 2004 marked his debut at 32 on the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs. Markus has captured a vibe in trance that was previously only heard in house music.

To see Guetta wind a room into frenzy is something special. Technically David is one of the most impressive DJs in the house scene. Almost remixing records live, he makes loops, slams tracks together that you’d never think would go and uses vocals over other instrumentals. His sets are so dynamic that at times it’s difficult to see how he can keep the energy up. To put it simply, Guetta creates moments.

First there were Heineken and Edam, then came Sander van Doorn. The Dutch musical genius may not be as mature as his predecessors but he’s certainly made as much of an impact in his comparatively short career, not only in The Netherlands but also across the world.
Having made his debut in the world renowned DJ Mag Top 100 at 32 in 2006, before climbing 19 places to No.13 in 2008’s poll; sandwiched between Carl Cox and Paul Oakenfold, the fast rise of Sander van Doorn is a testament to his raw talent and dedication. In just seven years he’s clocked up more dance floor destroyers, sell out gigs and awards than most artists do in a lifetime… and his journey is still in its infancy.
From the start Sander (and his alter egos; Sam Sharp, Purple Haze, Filterfunk & Sandler) has produced a variety of sounds at a level that only most producers can dream of, combining elements of trance, electro, techno and house constantly blowing away his fans and comrades, keeping everyone guessing what he’s going to come up with next. His debut artist album ‘Supernaturalistic’ was released in 2008 to rave reviews and launched a 32 date global album tour. Deadmau5, whose real name is Joel Zimmerman, is a progressive house and electro house producer from Toronto, Canada. His extensive discography includes tracks such as "Arguru" and "Not Exactly", which have been included in compilation albums such as In Search of Sunrise 6: Ibiza, MixMag's Tech-Trance-Electro-Madness (mixed by Deadmau5 himself), and on Armin van Buuren's A State of Trance radio show. He works alongside numerous other DJs and producers, such as Steve Duda under the BSOD alias. His album, Random Album Title, was released electronically in September 2008 via Ultra Records in the U.S. and Ministry of Sound in the UK and Europe. Physical copies of the album were released in November 2008.
Joel Zimmerman was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario on January 5, 1981. In 2008, he was the best-selling artist on Beatport with more than 30,000 digital downloads with his singles "Not Exactly," "Faxing Berlin," and "Ghosts N Stuff".
'Deadmau5', Zimmermans' DJ name comes from an incident where a mouse crawled into his computer. 'Dead Mouse' was too long for an IRC login name, so he abbreviated it to be the german spelling "Deadmau5".
Deadmau5 received two nominations for the Juno Award for Dance Recording of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2008 for a track with Billy Newton-Davis and Melleefresh. He did not win an award for Melleefresh's "After Hours" song, but he won the award for Newton-Davis' "All U Ever Want". He was also named "Producer of 2007" by DJ magazine's 2007 Top 100 winner Armin van Buuren, and by runner up Tiësto. In 2008, he placed number 11 in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll, tying Infected Mushroom (2006) for the highest new entry in the poll's history, showing Zimmerman's fast rise to prominence. On May 1, 2008, Deadmau5 became the most awarded DJ/producer of the Beatport Music Awards. He was named "Best Progressive House Artist" by Beatport. In 2009 he also received the most awards, and won 1st place in both nominations, as well as becoming the "Greatest house DJ ever" two years in a row.
In the United States, Deadmau5's collaboration with Kaskade, "Move for Me", reached number one on Billboard magazine's Hot Dance Airplay chart in its September 6, 2008 issue. In 2009, he was nominated for Grammy Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical ("The Longest Road" (Deadmau5 Remix) by Morgan Page featuring Lissie).
His scene handle was used for a radio station in Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.
Deadmau5 was recently confirmed by Festival Republic to be playing the Reading and Leeds festivals, in England this year. He will be headlining the Dance Arena.
Deadmau5 also headlined the Dance Arena on Friday July 10th at Oxygen festival in Ireland.

The Dutch harbor city Rotterdam was Ferry Corsten's (27) playground when growing up and the city still is his current base of operations. Being a full-time producer since 1991 Ferry has developed into a true prodigy of the international dance scene.
After initially producing some hardcore gabba tracks Ferry became more interested in clubhouse and trance. In 1996 Ferry achieved a position in the U.K. single chart at #46 with 'Don't be Afraid' by Moonman, his first major and European breakthrough as a solo dance Artist, producer & composer.
In 1997 Ferry and his partner Robert Smit established the Tsunami dance label together with the Dutch based dance company Purple Eye Entertainment b.v.
This collaboration would prove to be an almost instant success and eventually resulted in the creation of one of the most influential dance labels around today. These three parties have set up in the meantime another label entitled Polar State.
In February 1999 Ferry's second solo project, system F, was released on the Tsunami imprint. The title 'Out Of The Blue' is a melodic and powerful twister and turned out to be one of the biggest trance track of 1999, achieved a top twenty position in the U.K. single chart and put Ferry on the world-wide dance map permanently. The follow up single "Cry" (produced together with Robert Smit) was again an UK top 20 single hit.
Other projects of Ferry Corsten are: " I'm In Love" by Starparty (produced together with Robert Smit), "Carte Blanche" by Veracocha (produced together with Vincent de Moor) and in May 1999 the title "Gouryella" by the act Gouryella was released, an Artist-project Ferry produces together with the famous Dutch DJ Tiësto. The first single "Gouryella" entered the U.K. Singles Top 75 at #15 and achieved various hit positions throughout the world. The follow up single of "Gouryella", entitled "Walhalla" entered the UK single chart at #27 and was successfully released world-wide aswell. In September 2000 the 3rd Gouryella single entitled "Tenshi" was released world-wide. Ferry also remixed William Orbit's "Adagio for Strings" as well as "New Yearsday" for U2.
Next to his producing activities Ferry is a renowned international DJ, spinning in front of record crowds at the hotest locations in the world. The Ministry of Sound dance compilation series entitled Trance Nation mixed by Ferry Corsten / system F is one of the best selling dance compilations in the UK and has been awarded the platinum status and Trance Nation 4 is already in the planning. The 2nd half of the year 2000 will be marked by the release of his 3rd system F album.
In October of 1999 Ferry Corsten has been elected as 'Producer of the Year' during the Ericsson Muzik award in London, leaving fellow-nominees like Puff Daddy and Rodney Jerkins behind. In Mai 2000 he was awarded 'Best Remix' for "Barber's Adagio For Strings"' at the Dancestar 2000 awards. In Holland he received the prestigious 'Silver Harp' award due to his contributions to the Dutch dance music.
Although he's technically a Canadian, Richie Hawtin will forever be associated with putting his beloved Detroit on the dance music map. Along with fellow Detroit pioneer Carl Craig, Hawtin helped break the second wave of Detroit techno. From north of Detroit in Windsor, Ontario, Hawtin has been a DJ, a producer, a record label owner, and a flag-waver for the underground Detroit scene which is only now getting the respect it deserves in the United States. Hawtin started his career DJing at underground parties in clubs like Detroit's Shelter. There he met his partner, John Acquaviva, and together they launched the influential Plus 8 Recordings label.
Hawtin created a unique techno sound, which is regarded as synonymous with the city of Detroit. That sound, electro house, is very minimal, yet highly danceable. He is known for his use of the Roland TB-303 bass machine and that sound has become inseparable from quality acid house and electro recordings. These days, Hawtin kicks around with a TR-909 drum machine. Hawtin signed a record deal with Nova Mute in 1993, and is considered a star in Europe, where he has enjoyed success with his project, Plastikman.
In 1994, rumor has it that Hawtin was scheduled to perform at a rave held inside the Brooklyn Bridge. Allegedly, while crossing the border from Canada, guards stopped him, assuming he was attempting to work illegally in the US due to the massive amount of equipment in his car. Supposedly he went home and recorded a set to DAT and shipped it to the promoters. To this day, no one can say for certain whether that headlining slot was live or on tape.
Today, he has gained the respect of a larger US audience. In May 2000, Hawtin performed at the first Detroit Electronic Festival alongside Derrick May, Juan Atkins and other techno masterminds. More than 200,000 people attended from all over the world.
Armed with a slew of new CDs and enough confidence to rebuild Hadrian's Wall, Steve Angello totally destroyed the Space terrace at the inaugural Ibiza opening on May 31st - but in truth, the momentum has been building on Steve Angello's music for some time now. First up was arguably his globe-straddling Moby remix of 'Raining Again'. Then it was 'Tell Me Why' with Sebastian Ingrosso and 'Be' with Laidback Luke. And then 'Be' returned in spirit (and b-line) for 'Show Me Love' with original vocalist Robin S and Laidback Luke in tow, smashing clubs and Top Ten charts into tiny pieces everywhere it was dropped. "It's a huge track as we all know," says Steve Angello. "It's just one of those tracks. It's done a lot of good stuff for me so I do a new bootleg of it every six months. The best thing about it is everywhere I go, it's the one track that everyone wants to hear. I may have played it 60,000 times but people still want to hear it!"
Since we last looked, Steve Angello decamped to Los Angeles where he's been living at least 50% of the time, boosting his creativity and inner confidence to all-new levels. "I love playing in The States, it's a scene that's ready to explode," he states. "They're getting kind of bored of American DJs so I go one week a month to keep them interested in us. The scene in LA is huge - we used to play to 1500, now it's closer to 4000. I play at Mansion and Avalon in LA and Pacha in New York. I love Pacha New York too - it's Erick's club! - they got the place up on its feet and it catches that typical New York feeling. You also remember every face on the dance-floor."
But L.A. is Steve's new home and he despite having played pretty much every club on the American circuit, he says Avalon remains his favourite club spot. "The vibe in there is just ridiculous! It's the only club that goes past 4AM. When the light comes in at 6AM, I still have 4 hours to go. And then I can jump in my car and go home". Needless to say, music is Steve's main priority in 2009. "You know, I think if you come to LA and want to work, it's important... they're tired of producers doing one track and disappearing - I'm a workaholic!"
But when he's not spinning or driving, there's still much to do. When he wakes up, Angello is still very much the A & R supremo for Size Records, wherever he lays his hat that night. The label is now firing with released by himself, Kim Fai, Funkagenda and Marcos Schauss upcoming this year alone. "Marcus is doing well, he's a great DJ and he plays a little darker than me which is great," says Steve. "I also signed my brother Antoine to the label. He's 19, he's young and fresh - he's like me when I was 19, he's really determined - I gave him a taste of the DJ life and he loved it!" Well, who wouldn't? "At least I can steer him the way I want him to go," reasons his big brother. He's also working with Funkagenda - "such a great producer! He's already done a couple of pieces for the label," states Steve. "I love having him at my parties". Steve is ready for the Mafia summer to begin. Mondays at Pacha with Seb and Axwell - what more could he ask for? "It's so good to be having our own night and finally we got it. Every Monday will be like New Year's Eve!".
And what about Steve's own album? "I'm doing the Mescalkid album which is more techno - I have a Mescalkid track coming out on Sci- Tec, a dark techno track I really love but you know, I'm still making three new tracks a week! But my album is going to be really house and techy... I got a couple of vocals in the bag but it's too early to say". And then of course there's the small matter of the upcoming N*E*R*D* collaboration they're about to finish. "We met in Sydney. We started to talk and 'Be' was playing in the background and Pharrell said he loved the track. We had four days off and that's when we nailed it. I think everything is moving towards electronic dance music. Everybody is interested in what we are doing". And what of the song, Steve? "It's a very simple vocal - there are some really nice harmonies and then it has a banging bassline". And what did Steve learn from N*E*R*D*, we wonder? "The guy is a workaholic and you can definitely tell. He doesn't drink or party, he works 24/7... I was surprised how hard he could focus. And I thought I worked hard."

It all started in secondary school in the beginning of the 90's. Armin's big dance music inspirer in those days was Dutch Master Mixer Ben Liebrand. He bought himself two turntables, learned mixing quickly and soon began to create his own style. At the age of 16 Armin bought his first sampler, the Akai S-01. Although it was mono, he did everything with it that you could possibly imagine. The very first demo made was immediately included on a compilation. With the money he received from that deal Armin bought bigger and better equipment which resulted in his first vinyl release at the end of 1995. Since 1995 Armin has released a lot of tracks on different labels with increasing success. The first big success was 'Blue Fear' on Cyber Records. This 'Euro trance blueprint' even made it into the UK Chart. On the same label he also released 'Communication' which caused serious damage on Ibiza in the summer of 1999. This track was signed to AM:PM and entered the UK Chart at #18 in 2000!
In the beginning of 1999 he started his label Armind with United Recordings. The first release, Gig - 'One', was very well received. The second release 'Touch Me' under the name of Rising Star was signed to Ministry Of Sound before the records hit the shelves. When Gimmick - 'Free' was signed to R&S Records it can certainly be said that Armin has managed to put his label on the map in no time. He released Gaia - '4 Elements' and teamed up with DJ Tiësto to do two productions; Major League - 'Wonder Where You Are?' was released on Blackhole and Alibi - 'Eternity', which was another great club success, was released on Armind. Eternity was licensed to Paul van Dijk's label Vandit Records and will be re-released this summer. Another collaboration followed; he joined forces with Ferry Corsten to record another riff-classic titled 'Exhale' for the System F. album.
Perpetuous Dreamer - 'The Sound Of Goodbye', which was already featured on AVB002, is now finally released on vinyl. A video will be shot soon and a commercial release is set for late August 2001.
On his own AVB compilation series he manages to find the perfect balance between progressive, techno and trance. Armin van Buuren 003 - In Motion will be released August 6th. Frequently check www.arminvanbuuren.com for more detailed information.
After remixing huge tracks such as Wamdue Project - 'King Of My Castle', Madison Avenue - 'Don't Call Me Baby' and Gouryella - 'Walhalla' Armin's a highly demanded remixer and he's turning down remix requests almost on a daily basis. In the near future Armin will focus more on his own productions and will work on tracks for his Rising Star album.
Armin's DJ career also took off big time. In the UK you can see him regularly at Passion, Godskitchen, Gatecrasher, Slinky, Peach, and on various locations all over the world (Jerusalem, Tokyo, Helsinki, Ibiza, Crete, etc.). This summer he will play numerous gigs at Ibiza and in the UK and will rock Crete, Dance Valley and the Fast Forward Parade.
Above & Beyond are DJ/producers Jono Grant, Tony McGuiness and Paavo Siljamäki. Making music collectively and individually under monikers including Oceanlab, Tranquillity Base, Nitromethane, POS, Aalto, Dirt Devils and Free State, the boys have also remixed tracks like Madonna ‘What It Feels Like For A Girl’ and Armin van Buuren presents Perpetuous Dreamer ‘Sound Of Goodbye’, as well as artists such as Delerium, Three Drives and Japanese superstar, Ayumi Hamasaki.
Standout productions from the trio include the debut Above & Beyond single ‘Far From In Love’, Oceanlab classics ‘Clear Blue Water’ and ‘Sky Falls Down’, Nitromethane ‘Time To Die’ and, on Paul van Dyk’s ‘Vandit’ label, Aalto ‘Rush’.
The trio’s Anjunabeats label has become a firm favourite amongst major players like Paul van Dyk, Judge Jules, Ferry Corsten, Matt Hardwick (“…easily my favourite label right now”) and Tiesto. Armin van Buuren admits “…I can’t remember the last set that didn’t have an Above & Beyond production in it. They sound great on the radio and rock any dancefloor.” Previous releases on the label include the aforementioned standouts and recently, spectacular cuts like POS ‘Remember/Amnesiac’, Oceanlab ‘Beautiful Together’ and Rusch & Murray’s much talked about ‘Epic’ – a track made entirely on forums over the Internet. Recently, Jono, Paavo and Tony have snapped up a series of fresh artist for Anjunabeats. Out September, check Matt Hardwick vs. Smith & Pledger’s stunner ‘Day One’ (with Above & Beyond remix) and in October, check Kyau vs Albert ‘Velvet Morning (with a brand-new Aalto remix). 2003 will also see the release of the second Above & Beyond single, ‘No One On Earth’, featuring a vocal from Faithless songstress Zoe Johnston.
The label has recently embarked on an Anjunabeats tour; showcasing Above & Beyond DJ sets / Live, Oceanlab Live with Justine Suissa on vocals and Aalto Live with Paavo Siljamäki and Miika Eloranta. The first stage of the tour, in Canada, is almost over and has been a huge success. Follow-up tours have already been booked for Australia, UK and other countries across Europe, plus a return to Canada in early September.
As DJs, Above & Beyond hold regular commitments for Passion and have graced the decks at the likes of Ministry of Sound and Room At The Top in the UK, and internationally in Canada, USA, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Australia, Singapore and Japan. Through a combination of silky production skills and uplifting DJ sets, Above & Beyond are fast becoming one of the strongest moving forces behind electronic music. Indeed, the September 2003 issue of Mixmag singles out Above & Beyond as one of the most prominent trance acts in the world today.
In 1999, the readers of the English magazine "DJ" voted Paul as the "Best Music Maker", ahead of DJ legends Fatboy Slim (2) and Paul Oakenfold (3). Then at the 1999 Music Awards in London he received the "Best international DJ award". The "Ministry of Sound” Magazine elected him as the "Best international DJ", and his regular 6 hour set at Gatecrasher was voted as the "second best club night ever" by the readers of the English magazine "Muzic".
His hit singles "Another Way and Tell me why" and "We are alive" spent serveral weeks at number 1 in the German Dance - charts, and also reached number 15, 13 & 7 in the UK Sales - charts. He continuously moved-up in DJ Magazine’s annual list of the "Top 100 DJ's worldwide", then in September 1999, Mixmag Magazine elected him as "Man of the year" and "Muzik Magazine" named him as "Leader of the Trance Nation".
...A universal language, understood by people of every nation in every part of the world. Simply put, Paul van Dyk creates music that simply captures one’s emotions!
Born December 16th, 1971 in Eisenhuettenstadt, East Germany, Paul grew up in communist East Berlin. Prior to Germany’s reunification, he at least had an early window to the capitalist world via the cross-border airwaves.
"We were able to see Westside - TV and listen to western radio stations. We recorded the music and replayed it at our parties, because in the east we didn’t have something like a club culture. In those days I listened to the radio show of Monika Dietl. I was really captivated by the music of ‘The Smiths’ and ‘New Order’. It (the music) was very strong and emotional.”
Then in 1989, as the wall finally came down, a broad Club culture sprung up throughout all of Berlin. "Mainly they played that hard Detroit - Techno. I liked this energetic spirit, but something was missing. I (was looking out) for something else."
That search would never leave him. Stemming from two crusty old turntables, the first remix tapes of his musical ideas were created. And only a bit later, in March 1991, his unique style of dance music was played for the very first time to the public at the embryonic Berlin club "Tresor".
Around this same period, Paul also started making his own original compositions. His first production "Perfect Day", put together with Cosmic Baby as "Visions of Shiva", was released in 1992. "I was pleased like a little child, holding my own very first record in my hands!,” Paul remembers. "Perfect Day" was published by the Berlin underground label “MFS”, and launched a promising career, which aimed without pause or hesitation for the top !
In 1993 Paul created the club hit of the year with his remix of Humate’s "Love Stimulation". The following year, his first album "45 RPM" was recorded, while he was also regularly spinning sets at the legendary club “E – Werk”.
Over the next few years Paul garnered further respect by remixing tracks of many renowned artists such as Inspiral Carpets, Sven Väth, Curve and New Order. This was of course until the release of his second album, "Seven Ways", which firmly established him as one of the world’s truly great electronic artists.
“Seven Ways” unleashed a frenzy of national and international interviews, and many globe-roaming DJ - sets as well, as Paul was catapulted into the Top 100 - Salecharts. Even the English music media, typically protective of their own homespun DJ artists, unanimously praised the record. Readers of "DJ Magazine” – voted “Seven Ways” as the Number 1 album of the year. Bellowing singles such as "Beautiful Place", "Forbidden Fruit" and "Words", featuring remixes of Salt Tank, Quattara and Curve, fully secured him a place as a major player in the British and European dancecharts.
Before the club closed, Paul became an institution at Berlin’s “E – Werk”, regularly spinning new musical magic, with guest appearances by fellow superstar DJ’s Nick Warren, BT, Dave Seaman and Sasha.
In 1998 his first album "45 RPM" was released in the UK, and the new remix of the single "For an Angel" attacked the worldwide dancefloors. The album buzzed for two weeks at number 1 in England and four weeks at number 1 in the German dancecharts, and also achieved major postings in the American, Australian, Dutch, Belgian and Scandinavian dancecharts.
In 1999 Paul was divorced from his former label “MFS” and started up, together with his team, the new label "Vandit" – Records. This label presents both Paul’s releases, as well as other new and innovative dance/DJ artists.
In England, “Deviant” - Records are taking care of Paul’s creative output, whose brainstorm was the 1998 Triple - CD "Vorsprung Dyk Technik". Combining 33 tracks, it is the most exhaustive collection of Paul’s remixes to date, containing classics like Humate’s "Love Stimulation" and Joe T. Vanelli ‘s "Playing with the Voice in Germany" as well as Binary Finary’s clubhit "1998" and Paul’s own chart single "For an Angel". A year after its release in Nov 1999, "Vorsprung Dyk Technik" was officially declared "Silver" with over 60,000 UK sales, a very rare feat indeed for a Triple - CD.
Paul´s third album "Out There and Back" was released in summer 2000 and went straight in the Top 20 album sales charts in the UK and Germany. Singles like "We are alive" and "Tell me why" entered the sales charts with top positions in the UK on number 15 & 7 and 14 in Germany. Paul's last release so far is the Columbia EP with the new remixes from the "Out There And Back" album as well as the 3 new tracks "Movement", "Out There" & "A Different journey to Vega".
Today Paul’s touring diary is incredibly hectic with regular globetrotting stops at major venues in London, Tel Aviv, Mexico, New York and Singapore. Between all that, Berlin is always there and waiting -- if not for the interviews and local club dates, then for looking after his own label, recording studio and radio show (not to mention his friends and family as well!).
